The SDC 390 – 14 is a large rotary sonic rig on a compact rubber tracked base unit, it was designed to give the best possible sonic performance on a compact machine. A new interlocking safety cage, chalwyn valve and spark arrestor have been fitted to the rig. Rotary sonic drilling is the latest technology in high quality high speed drilling.

The SDC390 is an amazing, powerful and compact geo-environmental drilling rig, with 30 years development in its 50k head it’s widely known around the world as one of the best units available, its ideal for just about any drilling project in any geological formation
As with all of Tor Drillings rigs the unit has a full interlocking safety guard system including kill switches and comes site ready for any site with a Chalwyn valve and spark arrestor fitted as standard.

Drilling Methods
Surface Concrete Removal
A simple compression sprung coring attachment can be used on the rig to cut a 200mm Ø hole through surface concrete or a full face bit can be used to penetrate concrete using sonic vibration
The rig can use a full range of the aqua-lock series of sample barrels available at 50 – 70 – 100mm
Sampling & Casing
The rig can has a duel wall casing and sampling system which allows 121mm samples to be recovered cleanly whilst a 178mm OD casing is drilled in to prevent cross contamination and sure up unstable ground
Cross contamination & Aquifer protection
The duel wall system allows drilling casing and sampling simultaneously through all overburden materials, the casing prevent any cross contamination whilst the performance of sonic “liquefaction” prevents contamination attaching to the drill string when vibration is activated during a run, as soon as vibration is turned off at the end of a run and liquefaction ceases and the liquefied material instantly settles against the casing sealing off any possible pathways, making this system ideal for single string aquifer protection drilling without the need for duel casing systems.
Rotary Coring
Using rotation and vibration with a flush media the rig can recover conventional rotary core samples
Wire Line Coring
A wire line system is available for rotary sonic (not available at the moment from Tor)
In situ Testing
The unit can achieve in-situ SPT’s / CPT’s and undisturbed samples making use of it onboard winch to operate hammers and sampling equipment
Once drilling is complete in a size and method agreed the created bore can simply be backfilled or installed with a vast array of ground monitoring instruments as required.
Flush Media
Dry drilling with no flush media is possible in most over burden materials
In hard strata Air, Air mist, Water, Mud’s and Polymer flushes can be used to suit your requirements
